A free account is required to run this tool. No credit card required. We’ll keep your input while you sign up or sign in.

How it works

  1. Paste a YouTube watch URL or Shorts URL for a video with available captions.
  2. Choose Extract transcript. Sign up or sign in when prompted; your input is preserved.
  3. After account setup, choose Extract transcript again to run the request. Review the transcript text and timestamped segments. Copy the transcript or download text, JSON, SRT or VTT from the result.

Free allowance and limits

20 free credits per calendar month (UTC). No credit card required. Tools, REST and MCP share your project credit balance. There is no separate monthly request-attempt allowance. Failed processing uses no credits. Operational rate and concurrency limits apply.

This tool uses 1 credit for a successful request. No credit card is required to start. Requests run only when you choose the action; signing in does not automatically spend credits.

What to expect

Captions must be available. Private, removed, restricted or captionless videos can fail. This tool does not generate captions or AI summaries.

Public source data can change, and responses may be cached. Use only content you are permitted to access and process.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get transcripts for YouTube Shorts?

Yes. Paste a YouTube Shorts URL. The Short must have captions available; private, removed or restricted Shorts may not return a transcript.

Does it work without captions?

No. The extractor retrieves available captions. It does not transcribe audio or generate captions for a video that has none.

Can I download the transcript as SRT or VTT?

Yes. After a successful request with timestamped segments, choose Download SRT or Download VTT directly below the transcript. These downloads use the existing result and make no additional API request. The separate Transcript formatter can also convert saved JSON, SRT or VTT files.

Does the transcript include timestamps?

A successful response includes transcript text and timestamped segments with start times and durations. Download JSON to retain segment timing; the text download is for readable transcript text.
