# Export Facebook comments to CSV and Excel

Export an available comment batch from a public Facebook post, reel or video. This guide follows a recorded video-post example and explains how to open the CSV without treating missing reactions as zero.

## Start with a public post or video link

Use the link to an individual post, not a Facebook profile, Page home or group feed. Supported forms include /watch?v=VIDEO_ID, /reel/VIDEO_ID, /PAGE/videos/VIDEO_ID and /PAGE/posts/POST_ID. Keep the v parameter for a watch URL: it identifies the video.

The viewer does not ask for your Facebook password and does not use your signed-in Facebook session. Content limited to group members, friends or another restricted audience may not be available. A FetchFox account is required to run the tool.

## Request one batch and download it

The viewer requests up to 20 comments. One successful request costs one credit, including a verified empty result. Failed processing uses no credits. The free plan provides 20 credits per UTC calendar month.

1. Paste the public Facebook post or video URL and choose View comments.
2. If prompted, sign in to FetchFox. On returning, choose View comments to explicitly run the request.
3. Inspect the returned comments and collection status. A reply count is not an export of all those replies.
4. Choose Download CSV to save the current result. Download JSON if you also want the original structured response. Saving either file makes no new API request and uses no additional credits.

## Read a recorded Facebook result

This recorded request returned 20 comments and a continuation. The selected records below include reply counts, but their like counts were unavailable. The CSV leaves those likes cells blank. Facebook comment IDs are opaque strings; keep them intact when joining exports.

## Load the CSV into Excel or Google Sheets

In Excel, choose Data → From Text/CSV and select the file. Use comma separation and UTF-8 if needed. Review the preview and keep identifiers as text before loading.

For Google Sheets, use File → Import and upload the CSV into a new sheet or spreadsheet. Choose comma separation if automatic detection splits the columns incorrectly. Compare the first rows with your saved JSON.

The export includes the post URL, comment ID, text, available author information, likes, replies and a Unix timestamp. Missing fields stay empty. Formula-like comment text is prefixed with an apostrophe to protect spreadsheets; a visible apostrophe can be expected. Preserve it when opening untrusted text.

## Collect additional pages deliberately

The viewer stops after one batch. Use REST or MCP for more: repeat the same Facebook post URL and pass the opaque cursor when hasMore is true. Facebook does not accept Instagram’s sortBy input. Each successful request is charged separately.

Stop when there is no safe continuation or the source stops producing new comments. Collection status describes the available source, not a complete record of every visible, hidden or nested reply.

## When the export does not match the on-screen count

Facebook can display a total that includes comments or replies the source does not return to FetchFox. Missing like counts, partial collections and fewer than 20 rows can all be valid outcomes. Keep the retrieval date alongside your file and avoid describing the export as all comments.

For a rejected link, open the individual post and copy its permalink. For a request error, follow the tool’s recovery guidance; avoid repeatedly submitting the same successful request just to download it again.
